PROFILE: 
Versatile project manager with considerable experience in technical Consulting, sales, video production & engineering, computer graphics and non-linear editing,  Broadcast and Digital Video,  Internet application and content delivery systems.

OBJECTIVE: 
Seeking a challenging role working with technology and people.  I bring a broad spectrum of experience working with creative and technical people to accomplish clearly understood goals in a timely manner.

AREAS OF EXPERTISE:

  • Business & Management - I  own and have managed ZFx, inc.  a software development and consulting company for 17 years, employing or contracting with numerous programmers, graphics artists, salespeople, and administrative staff. 
  • Software Development - I have supervised both large and small projects, the largest being at Paramount Studios,  where I led a team of sixteen programmers developing a 3D animation package used in several motion pictures.  At ZFx, I managed development of a Linux/SQL-based web content management system.  Recent consulting emphasis has been on high-definition digital film restoration software.  Familiar with C, C++, SQL, Perl, PHP, Java and javascript, visual basic and .net development environments.
  • Networking and Hardware - I owned and managed Tricon.net, Northeast Tennessee’s first regional Internet Service Provider, developed a strong working knowledge of data and fiber transmission protocols and standards, security issues, firewall configuration issues, LINUX, IRIX, Windows, Macintosh, and  LAN, WAN, SAN, and VPN architectures. 
  • Image Processing – I have  a strong working knowledge of image processing algorithms, hardware implementation, codecs and image formats.
  • Operating Systems - I have worked with UNIX/Linux since 1983.  Familiar with windows and Mac configuration and applications, networking,  fast RAID and SAN storage,  network security and performance monitoring.
  • Documentary and Commercial Production - In 2005 I produced a 2-hour documentary DVD which I shot and edited, Scanimate, The Dream Machine shown at SIGGRAPH 2006.  Edited a HDTV presentation in FCP for a European client.  I have produced hundreds of computer-generated elements for feature films and TV commercials, as well as music CD’s and CDROMs.
  • Personnel Management - I believe one of my greatest strengths is working well with people.  I have a good track record of interviewing and hiring exceptional talent, and recognizing and resolving personnel and technical issues with highly talented technical and creative individuals.
     

BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE:

  • ZFx, Inc.  Kingsport, Tennessee:   1990-present    Owner.   Produced broadcast and commercial 3D animation for clients  in Hollywood and Mexico City.   Developed a database-driven Linux web content management system.   ZFx continues to host hundreds of websites for companies throughout the Tri-Cities region.   Clients have included  General Motors, Chrysler, Frito-Lay, Colgate Palmolive, Eastman Chemical, General Shale,  Siemens  Energy and  Automation,  Monarch Pharmaceuticals,  Bristol Motor Speedway,  WETS-FM,  Christian Medical/Dental Association, and Food City. 
  • International Video Conversions (IVC) Burbank, CA 2002-2003.  Data Image specialist.  (Consulting contract) Researched various image processing algorithms and systems for use in mastering High Definition DVD’s.
  • Omnibus Computer Graphics,  Hollywood, CA, 1984-1987  Director Research & Development.  Supervised construction of computer graphics production  facilities in Studio G on the Paramount Studios lot in  Hollywood,  new facilities in New York City,  and in Toronto, Canada.  Supervised  16 programmers and 3 hardware maintenance engineers.  Managed software development for computer-generated scenes in films: Flight of the Navigator - Disney and Explorers - Paramount. (screen credits) 
  • Image West, Ltd., Hollywood, CA, 1979-1983  Chief  Engineer, promoted to project lead on VersEFX, a realtime 2D/3D animation system.  Supervised three hardware & software engineers.  Designed, supervised,  and transitioned the Image West technical operations into new facilities in Studio City.
  • University of Mississippi, Center for Media Services, 1974-1979,   Chief Engineer .  Responsible for designing, installing, and maintaining studio, control, and master control facilities.  Supervised 3 staff engineers.  Worked full-time as University staff while earning my Bachelor of Arts in Communications (1977).  First Class FCC License.  

Status:   Single, In good health (non-smoker) 

Hobbies:  Photography, videography, musician (I play bass guitar in a band).
